155 1.8 vs subaru 2.0(1997 wrc champion)
H A N D L I N G
When it comes to the twisty stuff, the Alfa leaves the Subaru for dead. At first its hard, sporty ride seems too uncompromising, with almost every bump
and rut resounding through the body.It becomes even more noticeable on
the motorway where the kind of comfortable cruise that Mondeos and the
like offer seems a world away. The engine makes a traditionally sporty Alfa noise and is as flexible as
well-cooked spaghetti throughout the rev range. Whether you ask it to start work at 2,000rpm or at 5,000rpm, it never complains; if anything, it
spins more sweetly the closer you get to the red line. The Subaru is a considerable contrast to the Alfa Romeo. Where the
Italian car’s dulcet tones are musical, the Subaru’s fluttery engine note
sounds like a Volkswagen Beetle on steroids. It isn’t what you’d call
smooth, but its gruff nature isn’t a deterrent to pushing it either. If you want something practical that stands out from the crowd you won’t
be disappointed with either of these. But the Subaru has to make do with
second place. It certainly looks good in a chunky, stubby way, makes a sporty
noise and has a decent turn of speed.Of course the price will appeal, too,
and as the Subaru team won this year’s World Rally Championship, the badge
should impress your drinking partners.
In fact the only things that will put you off it are the drab interior and that toosoft suspension which doesn’t make the best of the extra traction that its fourwheel-drive system can provide. But for the right badge and the right fun factor look no further than the
Alfa. Yes, it costs more, but it’s worth the extra. It’s better-looking than the
Impreza, makes a better noise, has a slightly less dire interior, and, most
importantly, handles a whole lot better.A sharp chassis, high grip and ultraquick steering, all packaged in a practical four-door saloon body, combine to give you a car that’s sensible enough to cart the family about in. When you have to. But whenever you manage to leave them at home, you’ll be able to have a whole lot of fun in it too. -

Augusto Farfus emerged again as the fastest driver on the second FIA WTCC official test day in Monza. Alfa Romeo’s Brazilian youngster improved by 7 tenths of a second his yesterday’s time and set the fastest lap at 1:58.783. He was the only driver to go under the 1:59. mark. Second fastest was his team mate Gabriele Tarquini, while Dirk Müller set the third fastest time, the best of the BMW cars.
Roberto Colciago’s JAS Motorsport Honda Civic (8th fastest), and Jordi Gené’s SEAT Toledo Cupra (10th fastest) were the only cars to break the Alfa Romeo-BMW front in the the top ten. Most of the drivers improved consistently over the two days, and Stefano D’Aste emerged as the best of the Independents, setting an excellent 13th fastest time in his Proteam Motorsport BMW 320i. Gianluca De Lorenzi remained the fastest of the Italian Championship’s competitors, despite missing the second half of the day due to a crash at the Ascari. Probably because of a brake failure, his BMW creashed into the barriers, but the driver escaped with only a sore neck.Combined list of times – Day 1 and 2

And we all thought that 328bhp was enough for a fwd car - now they have bolted a supercharger onto the Alfa 147 3.7 GTA AM engine, and de-tuned it from 450 to 400 bhp....
http://www.italiaspeed.com/2005/cars/au ... /2303.html
Should be interesting, and I can imagine that the guys at Autodelta are impatiently awaiting the new 4x4 Brera and 159 models!!!
I have a feeling that this car might even be capable, theoretically, of 300km/h +!
......'Pushing the barriers forward they certainly do, as Autodelta have also re-worked the engine and fuelling, to achieve an astounding 400bhp! Once again this power is all going through the front wheels, and once again they are defying convention. Will it work? Autodelta's team it seems have no understanding of the meaning of convention?
The critics laughed when we announced 328bhp in the first 147 GTA AM, but it worked. Alfa have provided an excellent chassis and
package to build on, and we just took every area, engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electronics and styling, to the maximum'
