Today's pro-tip: If you mdadm --create an array on top of an older one to try to recover from a situation where even mdadm --assemble --force thinks you've got two spares instead of a full array, it will create a version 1.2 superblock, which starts 4 kB into the array, even if you used to have a 0.90 superblock, which is at the end. This will leave the LVM metadata alone (at least it did so for me), but seriously trash the first file system on the PV.
