By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, February 28th 2006, 13:35 GMT
Suzuki SX4 modelSuzuki has confirmed that it will enter the World Rally Championship from 2007, as autosport.com predicted earlier this month.
The announcement was made at the Geneva International Motorshow and comes after months of speculation that Suzuki would make the step up from Junior WRC.
The Japanese car company will use an all-new SX4 vehicle as the base of its assault on the series. The car will be developed in the JWRC category this year to increase its competitiveness prior to the move to the main series.
Although the final technical details of the car have not been confirmed, the car will be fitted with a 2.0-litre J20 engine.
Suzuki's decision to join the WRC has come at a time when manufacturers appeared to be losing interest in the series. Mitsubishi, Skoda and Peugeot all pulled out prior to the 2006 season.*
