Ford, Ferrari settle lawsuit over F-150 name

Detroit— Ford Motor Co. has settled its cybersquatting and trademark infringement lawsuit against luxury automaker Ferrari over use of the famous F-150 name.
The settlement was disclosed in a notice filed late this afternoon in U.S. District Court in Detroit. There were no details listed in the notice of Ford dismissing the case.
'We arepleased we were able resolve this issue amicably,' said Ford spokeswoman Anne Marie Gattari. 'This resolution ensures thatFord's famous and distinctive F150 trademark will be protected.'
The settlement comes three weeks after Ford sued Ferrari for allegedly misappropriating the famous F-150 name.
The lawsuit stemmed from Ferrari naming its new Formula 1 racing car the 'F150,' and creating the website www.ferrarif150.com.
One day after Ford sued, Ferrari agreed to stop using the F150 name, which was a nod to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Ferrari said it would replace the 'F150' name with the full version, 'Ferrari F150th Italia.'
Ford said it suffered irreparable harm to its F-150 trademark, and the Dearborn automaker's legal team asked a judge to block Ferrari from using the trademark in the United States. That includes importing, manufacturing or selling any product that uses the F-150 name.
Ford also wanted unspecified damages and for Ferrari to give up any revenue and profits earned in the U.S. through the use of the F-150 name, according to the lawsuit.
Ford also wanted $100,000 in damages pursuant to the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, which protects against Internet domain names that confuse the public over the true source of products and services.
Ford has used the F-150 name on its flagship, full-size pickup trucks since the 1975 model year.

It might seem like a Kafkaesque scenario, but the affair relating to the name of the car with which Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will tackle this year’s Formula 1 World Championship saw its final and decisive episode played out these past few days with the concomitant withdrawal by Ford of the summons. Therefore common sense has prevailed.
In order to avoid the slightest risk of anyone confusing a Formula 1 car with a pick-up truck, for their part, the men from Maranello have decided that the car will lose the F that precedes the number 150 and which stands for Ferrari, as it has done on numerous occasions when it’s come to giving a car a code name, be it for the race track or the road. It appears that this could have caused so much confusion in the minds of the consumer across the Pond that, at the same time as losing the F, the name will be completely Italianised, replacing the English “th” with the equivalent Italian symbol.
Therefore the name will now read as the Ferrari 150° Italia, which should make it clear even to the thickest of people that the name of the car is a tribute to the anniversary of the unification of our country. Let’s hope the matter is now definitely closed and that we can concentrate on more serious matters, namely ensuring that our car that already seems to be pretty good out of the box, becomes a real winner.

Αν διαβάσεις την ανακοίνωση της Ferrari αυτό βασικά ήταν το settlement με τη Ford, και βάζοντας το 'o' επάνω (που βασικά είναι το 'th' στα Ιταλικά απ'ότι λένε) θα ήταν χαρούμενοι και θα απέσυραν τη μήνυση, πράγμα το οποίο έγινε.
Πες μου τώρα...ΠΟΣΟ βλαμμένοι είναι αυτοί οι Αμερικάνοι?

WMSC modify tyre usage and safety car rules
The World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) met on Tuesday and agreed a number of changes to the sporting regulations, which will be applied with immediate effect. The amendments include tweaks to safety car periods and tyre usage. The FIA also revealed the Circuit Design Group is to examine Grand Prix circuits to identify the possibility of increasing overtaking opportunities.
Details from the WMSC in full:
Amendments have been made to the Sporting Regulations for immediate application:At certain events, one additional specification of dry weather tyre may be made available to all teams for evaluation purposes. Teams will be informed about such an additional specification at least one week before the start of the relevant event. Two sets of these tyres will be allocated to each driver for use during P1 and P2, and any such tyres must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of P3.
One additional set of ‘prime’ specification tyres may be made available to all drivers. Teams will be informed about such an additional set at least one week before the start of the relevant event. In this instance, the additional set will be available for use during P1 and P2. One set of ‘prime’ tyres must then be returned to the tyre supplier after P1, and two further sets of ‘prime’ and one set of ‘option’ specification tyres returned before the start of P3.
The safety car speed limit (an approximate 40 percent decrease in lap time) will now be enforced over two laps instead of one. The purpose is to ensure that cars are driven at a safe speed until they reach the safety car.
During a safety car period the pit exit light will remain green for the duration, unless the race is subsequently suspended.
Other than when the safety car has been asked to use the pit lane, no car may enter the pits while the safety car is deployed unless it is for the purpose of changing tyres.
Σε ορισμένους αγώνες θα διατίθενται πρόσθετα ελαστικά σε όλες τις ομάδες για σκοπούς αξιολόγησης. Δύο σετ από αυτά θα διατίθενται σε κάθε οδηγό κατά τη διάρκεια των πρώτων δύο μερών των δοκιμών, ενώ θα πρέπει να επιστραφούν στον προμηθευτή πριν από την έναρξη του τρίτου μέρους.

Το όριο ταχύτητας του αυτοκινήτου ασφαλείας (περίπου 40% μείωση στο χρόνο γύρου) θα πρέπει τώρα να εκτελεστεί σε δύο γύρους, αντί για έναν. Σκοπός είναι να διασφαλιστεί ότι τα αυτοκίνητα οδηγούνται με ασφαλή ταχύτητα, μέχρι να φθάσουν το αυτοκίνητο ασφαλείας.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της παρουσίας του αυτοκινήτου ασφαλείας, το φως στην έξοδο των πιτ θα παραμείνει πράσινο, εάν δεν διακοπεί ο αγώνας.
Αν βρίσκεται στην πίστα αυτοκίνητο ασφαλείας, κανένα αυτοκίνητο δεν μπορεί να εισέλθει στα πιτ, αν δεν είναι για αλλαγή ελαστικών.

Ξέρουμε τι θα ισχύει φέτος για τις γόμες; Πχ με την ίδια που θα κάνει κάποιος χρόνο στο Q3 θα ξεκινάει στον αγώνα; Θα μπορεί να αλλάζει κλπ..Είναι πολύ ενδιαφέρον φέτος που όλα δείχνουν ότι θα έχουμε μεγάλη φθορά.

Πράγματι όμορφη η Macca αλλά έχω δύο απορίες. Τα τούρμπο και τα ανθρακονημάτινα μονοκόκ δεν απαγορεύονται στην GT3? Πάντως σφαγή θα γίνει με την Ferrari και στην F1 και στα GT... αν και κάτι μου λέει ότι το ξύλο θα το φάνε οι Άγγλοι και στα δύο!
