Hamilton, who currently leads this season's F1 title race by three points from team-mate Alonso, **was not under any instruction to appear at the hearing. **
But the 22-year-old Briton felt his presence would be of assistance to team boss Ron Dennis, in particular as McLaren face possible expulsion from not only this year's championship but also for 2008.

'Hamilton, not Alonso, travels to Paris
De le Rosa also present at the WMSC hearing
13/09/07 09:35Lewis Hamilton, but not team-mate Fernando Alonso, will appear for McLaren on Thursday as the World Motor Sport Council meets to consider 'new evidence' in the espionage saga.
It is believed that the 22-year-old championship leader will be used as a character witness, as speculation mounts about possible hefty penalties for the Woking based team, including total exclusion from the 2007 season.
Alonso, meanwhile - although his email evidence is thought central to the case - will be at Spa Francorchamps ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix where he is scheduled to take part in today's FIA press conference. Pedro de la Rosa, on the other hand, will like Hamilton be in Paris.
**Details of the 166-page FIA evidence dossier has continued to leak into the media, with the Daily Mail apparently quoting from an email from engineering director Paddy Lowe to test driver de la Rosa.
'Let's try these new things,' Lowe reportedly wrote to the Spaniard, referring to tyre use and brake balance.
'They are from Ferrari. Nigel Stepney has sent them to Mike Coughlan.'**
It also emerges that Stepney and Coughlan not only met once at Barcelona earlier this year, but conversed several hundred times by email, telephone and text-message, particularly before races.
Some of their email conversations reportedly had to be reconstructed after they were deleted from computers, and Italian investigators believe they also met face-to-face several times.
A McLaren spokeswoman would not comment on the reports, but it is known that Mercedes' Norbert Haug met for 30 minutes with FIA President Max Mosley at the Frankfurt motor show earlier this week.

Έγινε διακοπή της συνεδρίασης για φαγητό, μιας που θα τραβήξει περισσότερο απ'ότι υπολόγιζαν.

The World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris has been adjourned for lunch, with proceedings now expected to go for longer than originally planned.
The hearing involving McLaren and Ferrari began this morning at 9:30 am, with a large number of Formula One personnel present, including an unexpected appearance from Ross Brawn.
The former Ferrari technical director, who is on sabbatical, has come to the hearing to be on-hand for Ferrari should they need him to give testimony to the WMSC.
Brawn has already given a written submission, but he could still be called to speak today if Ferrari need him.
According to those present at the hearing room, the morning section was dominated primarily by statements from Lewis Hamilton, who has by now left the FIA building, and engineering director Paddy Lowe.
The proceedings, however, were marred by heated discussions, which have vastly prolonged the hearing beyond its original schedule.
At lunch break, McLaren chief Ron Dennis and Mercedes motorsport director Norbert Haug went to lunch at a nearby hotel without making any comment, although the McLaren camp as a whole appeared upbeat.
Among those teams represented in the hearing as observers are Williams, Renault, Spyker and Red Bull.
Spyker team chief Colin Kolles was coy when asked by autosport.com of his impression of the case so far.
'Some things are very obvious, to be honest,' he said as he too left for lunch.
The WMSC hearing will resume at 2:00 pm local time but is now expected to continue throughout the afternoon.
McLaren are scheduled to hold a press conference an hour after the verdict is handed out.
