**Just wanted to say this: For those members that might not necessairly know the admins very well, we are not THAT anal when it comes to money and organization.

Anyway, in the future if you ever come late say to a BBQ or any event that we are providing food for and maybe just want to grab a pop or a dog.. Like some people that came late yesterday. Please don't feel like you cannot come up to us and ask for a pop, or maybe we could 'make you a deal' .. etc. Or hell we might even give you a can of pop for free.. Imagine that..

The above scenario is a lot easier for everyone involved rather than me overhearing a couple of members in the parking lot discussing 'borrowing' one another's BBQ tag that we were handing out yesterday. :nono: That really kinda put a bad spin on the day for me .. You know who you are.. Next time just come up and talk to us, there is no need for that. Thank you. **

**I sad that I'm hearing about this now.. If you want to really know we came up quite short on the BBQ because several people that said they were going to come did not show up.

Here is the breakdown.

100 people @ $10.00 = $1000.00 (our budget)

Food cost @ $7.00 per person = $700.00
Propane cost = (I bought two 3/4 full tanks (one 1/8 full one), and went home with a 1/4 full tank so 1.25 tanks used) = $16.00
Van rental = $125.00
Gasoline - $80.00

I also ended up buying two coolers because we didn't have enough. (Out of my own pocket)

We collected... $740.00 for the BBQ TOTAL

About $50.00 of potato salad, $35.00 worth of salad and $40.00 worth of salad dressing and condiments were given away because it does not keep.

Add it up we came up short. On top of that I wrote a cheque to Ian Law of over $3600.00 for the track.

We had people that were supposed to pay me on the day not show up both for the BBQ and the track..

Total cost of the day? $4600.00. What we took in? About $3600.00 (so far) right now we’re out almost $1000.00. This is the reason why I asked James to start 50/50 on the day (which nobody participated in except Cal ). I saw it coming as soon as the morning cruise got split into two groups.

$10.00 not worth it? I had time to eat one chicken patty, one hamburger patty and one hot dog the entire day. If people didn’t offer to bring me drinks at the start line I probably would have passed out from dehydration. I got 10 minutes on the track (thanks to Terry) because we couldn't find people to volunteer to marshal either. And on top of that cleanup and takedown was only assisted buy only a dedicated few. I came home yesterday tired sunburned and sore actually I passed out several time in Keily’s car after I dropped off the rental van last night. Plus my garage is more or less trashed because of all the “stuff” that needs to be put away. I’ll probably need to spend another 3 to 4 more hours cleaning up the aftermath.

Anyone want to ask me why I keep doing this? Because I at one time had a belief that people are friendly and open and giving, as well as honest and full of integrity and honour, and if I keep at it maybe I make a difference in the world - pretty optimistic for a guy that’s in his mid-thirties… Yet year after year I'm proven wrong. People bash (flame) each other, and cannot see another person's point of view. I see people lending passwords so their friends can read the members board. I see people using the club discounts for personal financial gains, and I hear of people trying to save a few bucks by sharing tags at lunch (actually I anticipated this, but did not believe it would happen).

I still am still happy that people enjoy the TPC I get a great deal of satisfaction to see the good things that happened because of the club. People enjoying their cars, learning new things having new experiences, as well as meeting new friends and finding “special” and on one occasion permanent relationships. but to be honest I am getting tired… very tired. All I can ask is that each member look at what this club has done for you and take one event to give back what you can unselfishly to the club. If every one of us put in as much effort as the people you saw cleaning up at the end of the day, every day this club will never die.

Mind you, we are nearly set for the TPC BBQ in August… but you know what? Somebody else is going to need to organize that one…
You know what else is funny I'd be willing to wager that 80% of the people would not have read this far. Often I feel like I'm just wasting my time.. **

2 hotdogs = $3.00 ($1.50 each)
1 hamburger = $2.50
1 side order of potatoe salad = $1.00
2 500ml bottle water = $2.50 ($1.25 each)
2 cans of pop = $2.00 ($1.00 each)

Total = $11.00

The entire day was great! It was extremely well organized. Great jog to Grant and all the admins for putting this day together!:thumbup: **

**It's sad to hear such negative comments. People just don't seem to realize the amount of work involved in organizing such an event/BBQ. Just imagine yourself doing the shopping, loading/unloading and driving the stuff 200km to Shannonville. When it's all done, pack up every thing and drive home. It's not an easy task and believe me, it's something I would not want to do.

Just to compare. You can easily spend $10 at the local diner for a burger, fries and soft drink. At the TPC BBQ, it was unlimited and we had salads, watermelon and more. Personally, I had my fair share of food and got my moneys worth. I had a great time. Big Big thanks to all the people for organizing the event.

**ok after reading this thread, I am very disappointed. I can't imagine why someone would say the $10 BBQ was not worth it, and that pple were sharing tags....that is just pathetic. Grant, I think you missed a few points in your recap of the effort that was needed to organize the event.
You negelcted to mention that you had less than 3 hours of sleep because you had to shop for 100 bbq participants, store the food at your house, thus using YOUR freezers/hydro, wake up at 4:30am on Sunday to pack the food and transport to Shannonville. I don't think TPC has a hourly wage that it pays you for the 21 hours of work you put in on Saturday.

Some people are so quick to b!tch, complain, whine, and question how their money is spent on the TPC but no so quick to participate in making things better. And when you do give them an explaination to how the budget was spend, you don't hear a peep from these people afterwards... they just crawl back into their hole.

I think want upsets me the most is people who said they were going to show up but didn't pay yet. Did these people even bother to call or let any admins know to give a heads up? Charge them anyways IMHO. That's just damn right rude. **

Hopefully the tpc bbq will be a profitable one, we already know it'll be a fun day. When I saw the amount of food that was being served I was impressed. For 10 bucks I was expecting a bunch of burgers/hot dogs, pop/bottles of water to make it worthwhile. The watermelon, salad, etc made it feel more like a bbq rather then just a lunch.
