Button stays at BAR next season
*From AtlasF1:
Jenson Button will drive for BAR-Honda next season after agreeing a substantial multi-million pound figure for a multi-year deal that releases him from his commitments to Williams, Autosport can exclusively reveal.
The agreement was signed last Friday, after Williams accepted cash in lieu of Button's services, and will keep him with the team which he has driven for since 2003.
Neither BAR nor Williams, which have fought over Button since July 2004, would comment, but an announcement is expected on Wednesday.
Williams have always maintained publicly that no negotiation over Button's contract would be possible and that he would have to drive for the team in 2006 and 2007.
But over the past two months, a series of talks have been held between Sir Frank Williams, team chief executive Chris Chapple and Button's management team, which has the backing of BAR-Honda.
It is understood Button, as the party in breach of his contract, will have to pay Williams not to drive for the team. BAR-Honda are likely to compensate him for the loss over coming seasons, however.
Button has been at the centre of a protracted tug-of-love between Williams and BAR for the past 18 months, since the so-called 'Button-gate' saga first broke.
Last October, BAR retained Button after he had spoken publicly of his desire to leave for Williams. This year the situation has been reversed.
Williams, who gave Button his Formula One debut in 2000, held a contractual option over him which they claimed obliged him to drive for the team in 2006.
Under the terms of the contract, Button would have had to score 75 percent of the 2005 Championship leader's points by August 21, in order not to be bound by his Williams obligations.
His failure to do so gave Williams what it claimed was a binding hold on Button for 2006.
Button maintained, however, that he did not want to drive for Williams and that he would try to negotiate a release from the deal.
Button's manager Richard Goddard declined to comment.*

BMW-f1 Wanted MS!!!
*from F1 racing:
BMW F1 wanted to sign Schumacher
BMW's Mario Theissen has revealed that he asked Michael Schumacher if he wanted to switch formula one teams in 2007. 'I would be negligent if I did not speak to the best drivers,' the German answered. 'I have, however, the impression that Michael wants to end his career with Ferrari.'
Of course, the likely 2006 Hinwil-based BMW team principal knew that Schumacher, 36, would not really be interested. After all, a BMW-powered Sauber is not going to steer quickly to the front of the grand prix grid.
'I am expecting that Williams will have the stronger package next year,' Theissen, referring to BMW's six-year team partner, continued. 'This is a reality that we mustn't ignore.'*

Shanghai gets 'Schumacher to quit' boost.
*Ticket sales for the second Chinese Grand Prix, which closes the 2005 Formula One season, have received an unexpected boost as fans try to buy up seats to witness Michael Schumacher's final race.
Chinese whispers (naturally!) on the streets - and newspapers - of Shanghai have convinced the local population that the seven-time champion may be about to call time on his career, prompting a rush for tickets. Grandstands are apparently close to selling out, with general admission tickets also being snapped up quickly. The official line on Schumacher - from both Ferrari and the German's own camp - is that he will not make any decision on his future until next March, but the chances of him quitting before then - or before the end of 2006 - remain remote.
Shanghai International Circuit has added to the event's interest with the unveiling of F1 Passion, a carnival-style party to bring the world championship to a close in style on 16 October.
'In the past year, sports fans in China have really got behind motorsport, and Formula One has a rapidly growing fan base here,' SIC general manager Yu Zhifei explained, 'so I thought it would be good to give our supporters something in return. This party represents the very essence of the sport - passion.
'Alongside the Olympics and the World Cup, Formula One is one of very few truly global sports. We believe this year's race will be even more entertaining than last year, with lots of action both on and off the track to keep Chinese motorsport fans coming back for more. What better way to end a great weekend's racing than with a proper F1 party capturing the spirit of both the sport and Chinese culture?'
The event will take place in the Shanghai stadium and will feature a wide variety of entertainment, with Danish rock band Michael Learns To Rock headlining. The act enjoys a huge following in China and their set will mark their second performance of the day following a brief appearance at SIC prior to the race.*[/b]

Williams Confirm Button Agreement
The Williams Formula One team have officially confirmed that Jenson Button will drive for BAR next season, as exclusively revealed by Autosport.
Williams said they had reached an agreement to release Button from his contractual commitment to the team for 2006 and beyond.
'As consideration for the release from the terms of his contract, Jenson has agreed a financial settlement with WilliamsF1,' Williams said in a statement.
Button was thankful to team boss Frank Williams.
'I would like to thank Frank for accommodating a compromise to what was a binding contract and I regret the difficulties my decision has caused everyone involved,' said Button.
Williams added: 'I am glad that we have brought this matter to a conclusion and we can return to what we do best - racing.'

Peter Windsor on Michael
Do you think Michael Schumacher's reign is over, or has he just been temporarily deposed?
The latter. And I’m not even sure that it’s technically correct to say that “he” has been temporarily deposed. Ferrari have been deposed.
Michael, in my view, is still the world’s number one driver – the more so because of the way he has been fighting in the midfield in a car that has no chance of winning.
Think about it: Think about an athlete with the stature and accomplishments of Michael having to race with the Taku Satos or the Felipe Massas for the past 15 races.
Lesser drivers – and by that I mean a whole string of world champions, recent and past – would long ago have retired into comfortable wealth.
Not Michael – which is why I think he will of course be a major contender, car permitting, in 2006. It is a given. For why else would he be racing? For the glamour? For the money? For the fame? Forget it.
Only one thing drives Michael – has ever driven Michael – and that is winning.
So long as Michael is lowering the visor and accelerating out of the pit lane you can be sure that he will be giving it 100 per cent.
And Michael’s 100 per cent, of course, is very different from anyone else’s.So long as Michael is lowering the visor and accelerating out of the pit lane you can be sure that he will be giving it 100 per cent. And Michael’s 100 per cent, of course, is very different from anyone else’s.

***FIA React to McLaren's Spa Tactics
**
*
Formula One's governing body the FIA has made a clarification in the safety car regulations following McLaren's use of clever tactics to gain advantage at the last race in Belgium.Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen were lying first and second when the safety car was called out and Raikkonen slowed the field as Montoya stopped to enable the team to clear the pit for him.
But the move appears to have upset the FIA and the governing body released a statement ahead of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix to clarify the situation.
The FIA said: 'After the teams have been informed the safety car will be deployed, any car driven at a pace we consider unnecessarily slow and that could endanger other drivers, will be reported to the stewards.
'This will apply to cars being driven on the track, the pit entry and the pit lane.'
Raikonnen crawled to almost a standstill as he entered the pits at Spa, with the rest of the field bunched up heavily behind him, and Monotya had been released by the time he arrived at the pit bay.
The move enabled both drivers to come out of the pits without the usual time penalty of the second car waiting while their rivals all cost vital seconds in their stops.
Speaking before the clarification was issued McLaren team boss Ron Dennis said: 'We handled it off the pit wall, it was just a little bit like a play book.
'The beauty that you have if you are lying first and second in a Grand Prix in those sorts of incidences is that you are able to facilitate that strategy.
'There are some things we use our simulation to trigger an action, there are some that is just written playbook, this happens, you do this, which was the case in Spa.
'But Spa was a very long lap so we were able to execute it in such a way that it was apparent to even the most innocent and un-knowledgeable people that it was a pretty smart thing to do.'
Too smart, it seems, for the FIA, whose clarification means they can now consider action against teams opting a similar strategy in any of the races in the future.
Dennis claimed the long track at Spa-Francorchamps enabled them to execute the perfect strategy but admitted a similar move on a shorter circuit would be more difficult and could cause problems.
'On a shorter lap, and according to where it all took place, that would be a bit harder to execute,' he added. 'But I think they both did a pretty good job.'

'Takuma Sato will finish his BAR-Honda career at the Chinese Grand Prix with what may be** the most powerful 3.0litre V10 Formula 1 engine ever built**. He will have a 'Shanghai Special' one-off engine fitted to his BAR007, tuned for outright power instead of being optimised for a two-race life.'*
