'As it turns out, the VW 2.0L diesel is ideally suited to the Caliber's overt personality. To begin with, it is turbocharged, pushing a healthy 140 hp and a tire-spinning 229 pound-feet of torque at just 2,500 rpm. It also keeps upward of 190 lb-ft of torque flowing all the way to 4,000 rpm -- which just happens to be where the horsepower peaks.
It also gives the Caliber a rather sporty feel to its drive. At 9.3 seconds to 100 kilometres an hour, the diesel is two seconds faster than the 2.0L gas engine and 2.6 seconds faster than the base 1.8L. Even at the top end, which is where many diesels poop out, it is faster than the gasoline units -- at 7.5 seconds between 80 and 120 km/h, it is 0.1 and 1.6 seconds faster, respectively. The real irony, however, is that it also has a higher top speed -- 196 km/h versus 186 km/h for the gas engines.
Likewise, when it comes to fuel consumption, the diesel betters its gas-powered siblings by a similar margin. The diesel consumes 6.1 litres per 100 kilometres in the European combined cycle; the 1.8L and 2.0L gas engines need 7.3 and 8.1 litres to accomplish the same distance.
The only transmission offered with the diesel is a six-speed manual. Because of the diesel's strong torque production, the ratios can be spaced out over a wider range, so there's a gear for every occasion. Part of the reason it works so well (and is so flexible) are the two different final drive ratios -- 4.059 for gears one to four and 3.45 for fifth, sixth and reverse.'

Το …“ The original’ μοιάζει πολύ με τα Hyundai Tuscon & KIA SPORTAGE… Από πίσω ειδικά είναι μάλλον δύσκολο να το κρύψουν. Δεν είμαι απόλυτα σίγουρος ότι μιλάμε για το ίδιο αυτοκίνητο, αλλά αν είναι το ίδιο αυτοκίνητο με το Hyundai και το KIA και πρόκειται για κάποιου είδους «συνεργασία», τότε νομίζω ότι το όνομα Jeep σύρθηκε στην λάσπη από το τμήμα Marketing της Chrysler…:sorry: Σε αυτή την περίπτωση η ονομασία του μοντέλου ως 'Patriot' είναι τουλάχιστον.. ατυχής! Kαι για να μην παρεξηγηθώ: τα Tuscon /SPORTAGE είναι πολύ καλά και τίμια αυτοκίνητα, απλά τα Jeep οφείλουν να είναι πιο hardcore off-road αυτοκίνητα και να απευθύνονται σε απόλυτα ειδικό κοινό. Το ερώτημα είναι βέβαια το «πώς ορίζεις αυτό το ειδικό κοινό?» και σε αυτό …δυστυχώς δεν έχω την απάντηση.

Εμένα μου είπε ο αντιπρόσωπος μόνο με την απλή τετρακίνηση και όχι με την 'Freedom Drive II' έρχετε Ελλάδα, γνωρίζετε αν στο μέλλον θα έρθει?

Βασικα το ειδα στο δρομο, μοιαζει αρκετα με το Compas αλλα μου φιανεται πιο κοντο.....η 'Freedom Drive II' τι ειναι ακριβως?

Η FD2 απ' ότι έχω καταλάβει έχει μία πολύ κοντή πρώτη, την οποία την επιλέγει χειροκίνητα ο οδηγός. Δεν έχει πλήρες σετ κοντών σχέσεων. Επίσης, είναι πακέτο με το CVT κιβώτιο. -
