Luca Di Montezemolo calls on Scuderia Ferrari to deliver for Fernando Alonso

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says the team needs to deliver a quicker car for Fernando Alonso in 2014.

Alonso's relationship with Ferrari appeared to be strained during the 2013 season as poor car development saw the team slip off the pace after Alonso had won two of the first five races. Montezemolo had previously given him a rating of eight out of ten for his performance this season and explained to RAI Uno that it is now down to Ferrari to provide Alonso with the tools to challenge Sebastian Vettel for the championship.

'He is right to be proud of second place: he had a great season,' Montezemolo said. 'We must give him a quicker car and he will get the most out of it. Eight out of ten, instead of ten? My eight is worth a ten because it's a score I give as an incentive: I hope to give it him next year and to give an eight, at least, to the team.'

Montezemolo also pointed to previous Ferrari dominance as proof that it can turn the tables on Red Bull in 2014.

'For next year I would like to present him with a car that's even better than Red Bull. Let's not forget we know how to do that: one only has to think of the five year period from 2000 to 2004 and the wins in 2007 and 2008. I thank him for all his efforts and the determination he showed this year and for the fact he would have been prepared to let [Felipe] Massa get onto the podium last Sunday back in Brazil, as it testifies to the nice atmosphere in our team.

'[Adrian] Newey isn't his opponent: there are the drivers, starting with Vettel, then [Lewis] Hamilton and [Nico] Rosberg, who has improved a lot, and there's [Kimi] Raikkonen who will be trying to win, which will give us a boost and should bring the points we were missing this year.'

Νομιζω οτι και ο Massa εχει δηλωσει οτι εκανε κατι αναλογο!

Εκτος κι αν εννοεις οτι επρεπε να παει σ' αυτον του Grosjean για εγγυημενα αποτελεσματα.

(Φημες λενε οτι ο Alonso πληρωνε μυστικα τον ψυχακια του Massa να του γραφει Ελληνικα γενοσημα)

Οτι σε συμφερει κοινως...

Το οτι τον εξυμνηουν αλλοι τοσοι ομως (μαζι και ο προεδρος φυσικα)...

Το προβλημα δεν ειναι η οδηγικη του κλαση που ειναι τεραστια και ορθως εξυμνειται. Το προβλημα ειναι η εξωαγωνιστικη συμπεριφορα του.

Bernie Ecclestone admitted on Monday that he was somewhat disappointed with Fernando Alonso's performances in 2013 and hinted that the two-time World Champion has been looking for a move away from Ferrari.

Alonso finished the season in second place in the Drivers' Championship standings behind Sebastian Vettel for the third time in four years, but his performances couldn't help Ferrari finish higher than third in the Constructors' Champs.

McLaren had made no secret previously that they would welcome the Spaniard back to Woking after he spent an unsuccessful season there in 2007 if he was open to the move.

'I've been a little bit disappointed in Fernando because I'm a big supporter of him and of Ferrari,' Ecclestone wrote the official Formula One website's season review.

'I thought he gave up a little bit which is proof that he was looking for another team.

'I don't know whether the team is not competitive because of him or because the people who are running the team aren't getting the job done.'

Ecclestone added that Sebastian Vettel is arguably the best Formula One driver of the last 50 years after the German won the last nine races of the season to win his fourth consecutive Drivers' title.

'You probably have to say he's number one of the drivers I've known,' Ecclesone added before suggesting that Kimi Raikkonen was the best driver of the year.

'This year I suppose I have to call Kimi the star driver, with the equipment he has.

'I think he was motivated on hope that he was going to get paid. He's a good guy to have in a team. He's super, he's a racer.'

The 83-year-old Ecclestone was also impressed with Pirelli, despite complaints from the paddock about the rapid degradation of their tyres.

'Pirelli did a wonderful job for us. I told them we don't want tyres that last the race, we want tyres that nobody knows how they are going to last. We've also got that with the new engines next year,' he continued.

However, Ecclestone believes the new FIA regulations which sees teams switch from to V8 engines will have a negative effect on spectator numbers.

'I still think what we have now is good, I don't think there was any need to change it,' he concluded.
