Timo Glock reckons Marussia owe Michael Schumacher a big thank you if they beat Caterham to tenth place in this year's Constructors' Championship.
Marussia leapfrogged Caterham in the teams' standings when Glock brought his car home in 12th place in the Singapore GP, potentially earning his team millions and help with travel costs.
However, that position seemed to be on the verge of slipping out of Marussia's grasp when, last time out in Abu Dhabi, Heikki Kovalainen was lapping in 12th place in his Caterham with Glock trying but failing to catch up to him.
Behind them, though, was the quicker Michael Schumacher who easily overtook Glock before hunting down and passing Kovalainen, leaving Marussia to breathe a sigh of relief.
'I immediately let Michael Schumacher past and hoped that he would crush the Caterham,' Glock told Auto Motor und Sport.
'When he was passing Heikki we could breathe again. Michael saved us.'
The race finished with Kovalainen 13th and Glock 14th.
Marussia team boss John Booth admitted: 'Those of us on the pit wall have pretty chewed nails.'
