MAX MOSLEY CASE

The London High Court judge David Eady is expected to rule on the Max Mosley privacy case some time next week.

Lawyers for the FIA president, and for the British scandal tabloid News of the World, gave their closing speeches on Monday, at the end of a trial covered in explicit detail by the mainstream press.

Before adjourning, Eady told the court he hopes to make his decision by 'the middle of next week'.

It is expected that, if Mosley succeeds, the outcome will be a landmark legal precedent in the realm of personal privacy versus media freedom.

Jul.15 (GMM) McLaren looks likely to retain its Santander sponsorship beyond the 2009 season, notwithstanding widespread reports that the Spanish bank wants to switch with Fernando Alonso to Ferrari.

It has now emerged that McLaren in 2010 and beyond will probably run with Abbey branding, which is Santander's UK subsidiary.

Santander began sponsoring McLaren last year, coinciding with Spaniard Alonso's ultimately ill-fated tenure with the Mercedes-powered outfit.

The latest rumour is that while the Santander branding is expected to switch to Ferrari in 2010, the Spanish company may want to continue to benefit from the huge interest generated by Lewis Hamilton's role at McLaren.

Indeed, at the recent British grand prix at Silverstone, title sponsor Santander ran joint Santander-Abbey signage on its trackside advertising

Ross Brawn, team principal of the Honda F1 team, appears to have confirmed that both Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello will remain as the teams race drivers for the 2009 season.

In an interview for ‘F1.com’, Brawn explains that the problems with the team lie in the car, not the drivers, and when asked if the same two men would be driving for him next year answered simply ‘yes’.

Barrichello is now the longest serving F1 driver in the sport, and of all time, while Button has made no secret of the fact that he sees the team as the place to be in coming years.

Honda are thought by many to be in a positive situation with regard to the introduction of KERS energy saving systems in F1 next year, as the company is already working on a system for the coming season.

Jul.17 (GMM) After a disappointing opening half of the 2008 season, Nick Heidfeld has declared himself ready to return to top form.

With BMW-Sauber engineers, the 31-year-old German has been working hard to solve his problem with heating up the Bridgestone tyres.

At Silverstone he seemed to have made progress, keeping up with on-form teammate Robert Kubica in qualifying and then finishing second in the rain-affected race.

'I feel good in the car again,' Heidfeld told the German publication Sport Bild, on the eve of his home race at Hockenheim.

'Before Silverstone, the car was driving me, but now I feel like I'm back in control,' he added.

It is understood Heidfeld remains under contract to BMW-Sauber for 2009, but the Hinwil based team is yet to confirm its next driver lineup.

**Names including Bruno Senna **and Fernando Alonso are being linked with moves to the German squad.

Heidfeld, a veteran of approaching 150 grands prix, said: 'Since I have been in formula one, dozens of drivers has come and gone. I feel I have the support of the team.'

Max Mosley on Thursday won his privacy case against the British tabloid News of the World, London High Court judge David Eady ruled.

'I decided that the claimant had a reasonable expectation of privacy in relation to sexual activities (albeit unconventional) carried on between consenting adults on private property,' he said.

Justice Eady also said there was 'no evidence' to support the newspaper's claim that there was a Nazi element to his party with five prostitutes.

'I see no genuine basis at all for the suggestion that the participants mocked the victims of the Holocaust,' he added, explaining there was 'no public interest' for the News of the World's expose.

Mosley was awarded 60,000 British pounds ($120,000) in damages, compensating Mosley's 'injury to feelings, the embarrassment and distress caused', Eady said.

He did not award punitive damages.

A statement issued by Mosley's lawyers said the 68-year-old is 'delighted' by the ruling.

'I needed a strong judgment to make it absolutely clear that what the News of the World did was wrong. Obtaining that in the full glare of the media has been extremely difficult but I am delighted that we have achieved what we set out to do,' the FIA president added, reinforcing his promise to donate the money to the FIA Foundation.
