Senna, Mansell, Berger - Press Conference - Estoril '92

*In 1992 at Estoril, Portugal, Senna came third in the race. Here follows the press conference of which he was the star. If you have not heard of this press conference then I won't spoil it by giving away the details but be warned that the details will be discussed in posts below.

You can see the charismatic legend that he was, not just giving stock answers. An incredible insight into the characters and the politics of the day.

If you weren't one of those in awe of Michael Schumacher's qualifying lap in Canada a few weeks ago, then this thread probably isn't for you.

If you were (and you damn well should be!), then here's a chance firstly to watch it again, and secondly to study both in real time and in slo-mo Michael's uncanny ability to carry an outrageous amount of speed towards the apex of a corner. I'm talking mainly about turn six - where his unique style of turning in very early with bags of speed is most evident.

I remember watching him entering this corner and thinking 'no way is he going to keep this on the road', because in theory, with the speed and trajectory of his car as it was heading towards the apex, you'd have expected him to run ridiculously wide on the exit. But having done a bit of research into Schuey's style, it's obvious even after my years of fanship that I had underestimated his skill on the brakes.

He locks up his front left tyre, a perfect example of his technique of transferring momentum to the rear of the car by way of lift-off oversteer... releasing the brakes after a small lock-up and using the resulting pivot effect to slide the rear of the car around and point the front end towards the exit, while retaining forward momentum by skilfully blending in the throttle (the fractional delay in the traction control means this is still possible, but take the TC away, and his style would be even more beneficial to him).

Anyway I'm sure most of you know this already, but it's not often you get a good piece of footage to demonstrate it...

Locking a tyre is not, of course, his ideal way of doing it... it's his way of dealing with a car that isn't working as well as he'd like. As Brundle points out afterwards, he outdrove the car on that lap. This year we're seeing the aggressive Michael that we saw pre-2001 when his cars, on the whole, were not all that good. Vintage Schumacher, in other words.

No introduction needed for that last one. After a bad start to the lap (including a mesmorising tankslapper into turn two - you can hear the tyres squealing!) Michael really pulls it out the bag. Over such a short lap and with the qualifying times so close, making up the lost time seemed an impossible task. Even Brundle, who so often expertly predicts a grid position by watching a qualifying lap, has Michael down for about tenth position. But he snatches the pole from under Kimi's nose. Supreme

This is vintage is the sense of being old, not necessarilly one of his supremo performances. I'm assuming that there is no on-board coverage from the Jordan, therefore this must surely be the earliest on-board footage of Schumacher in F1.

Incredible to see how far he has come, when you compare this to the above videos. It's amazing to think that he is part of the old guard: Senna, Mansell, Berger, Patrese, Piquet, Brundle etc. yet he is still only 35/36?

It's onboard coverage of Michael Schumacher in only his second F1 race and his first for the Benetton team. It is a single lap of Monza in 1991.

Edit: I have now fixed the out of sync problems. Audio and video are now in sync.

Ολόκληρος ο αγώνας υπάρχει πουθενά;

Το έγραψα στο σκληρό του DVD recorder μου, όπως και κάθε άλλο αγώνα από πέρσι, αυτή τη φορά την πάτησα αλλιώς...

Ενώ και το έγραψε, και το είδα στην μαγνητοσκόπησή μου, έκανε defrag ο σκληρός, και έχασε το 60% των περιεχομένων, μαζί και το Γ.Π Αγγλίας...

Τουλάχιστον σώθηκε το Γαλλικό...

Αν κάποιος έχει λίνκ για το Βρετανικό, θα μου καλάρεσε!!!

Έχω το Σίλβερστοουν του 1999 και η εικόνα είναι ακόμα άθικτη. Βέβαια κάποιες άλλες κασέτες τις ίδιας εποχής έχουν αρχίσει να παραδίδουν το πνέυμα
