December 19, 2009Ferrari boss, Luca di Montezemolo, has admitted that he had concerns about bringing Fernando Alonso to the team - as he wasn't sure he could be a team player.
Alonso, who signed with Ferrari in September, ousted Kimi Raikkonen from the Italian team. However di Montezemolo has admitted that he was not sure if Alonso would fit into the team dynamic.
'We have been watching him since 2007,' di Montezemolo said. 'He is an extremely talented driver, quick and good at working with a team, while being totally focused on winning.
'I spoke about [his doubts] with [Stefano] Domenicali maybe 1,000 times, not 100, 1,000 times, and I spoke with Alonso. I told him: 'If you come to drive for us, you drive for a team, you drive for a group, you don't drive for yourself. If you want a team, then you do your own team, fantastic, like John Surtees . In Ferrari we want to put you in the best condition to win. If not, we will never hire you'.'

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says he signed Fernando Alonso a year earlier than expected to accelerate the Scuderia's return to competitiveness.
The Italian, speaking to the press at Ferrari's annual Christmas lunch last week, indicated that with Felipe Massa still recovering from injury, and the 2009-specification F60 having proved less than spectacular, the team urgently needed a driver that could drive the development of a car. He added that he considered Alonso, rather than Kimi Raikkonen to be that person.
'Besides hazy regulations, our car in 2009 wasn't up to the level of competitiveness we needed,' Montezemolo was quoted as saying in Gazetta dello Sport. 'I was afraid that Massa wouldn't recover. After his crash we have focused on the 2010 car. Kimi had trouble working with the team, but my judgement on him is positive.
'In order to make a leap forward, however, we needed someone able to communicate with the team, Alonso will do that. When Stefano Domenicali, who I trust very much, talked to me about him three years ago, I told him we had to bring him here.
'Alonso was supposed to race with us in 2011, but after Massa's crash we decided to bring that forward, after learning that he wasn't involved in the Singapore scandal.'
In an exclusive interview with AUTOSPORT last week however, Raikkonen indicated that he suspected the reason he had left Ferrari a year early was financially, rather than performance-related.
'I think when there is enough money involved, you can always change anything! I think it's a lot to do with Santander coming in. Probably they made some deal. I don't know...'
Montezemolo also revealed that he beleived major changes were required in the way F1 is managed and that he hoped that the new FIA president Jean Todt would usher in an era of cooperation between the sport's governing body and the teams.
He proposed relaunching and restructuring the sport so that it can move on from the political strife of recent years.
'We need to set up a table where to bring proposals in order to relaunch in a big way,' he said. 'We must also think about a new engine from 2013. Bernie Ecclestone? In no sport there is a 50 per cent commission on business deals. We come from a Max Mosley administration to forget.
'We seriously considered abandoning F1. Some have, as a consequence of dead end policies. Now we have new teams with paying drivers, but how many teams will be at the start of the first race? Looking beyond 2012, we'd also like to win at Le Mans, or at Indy.
'Todt? He has the competence and the capability, he must discuss and change many things, and I expect him to do it. The 2010 championship will be very interesting, as long as we win it!'

Οι ανησυχίες είναι δικές μου η του Μοντετσέμολο τελικά? -
Tα προβλήματα στη Ferrari τα προκάλεσαν οι λανθασμένες επιλογές του Montezemolo.Ήταν αυτός που θέλησε να ποντάρει στον Domenicali,αδειάζοντας κατ'αυτόν τον τρόπο τον Brawn και δείχνοντάς του το δρόμο προς τη Honda.Ο Domenicali δεν είναι σίγουρα στο ύψος του Brawn.Μπορεί να πρόκειται για έναν δουλευταρά,αλλά οποιαδήποτε σύγκρισή του με τα ιερά τέρατα της Formula 1,δέον όπως αποφεύγεται.Αν ο Brawn είχε διατηρήσει τη θέση του στην squadra corse της Ferrari,ίσως δεν θα είχε επιτρέψει να μεσολαβήσει η παρένθεση Raikkonen,ο Massa θα είχε στεφθεί παγκόσμιος το 2008,προφανώς η περσινή σεζόν δεν θα ήταν τόσο απογοητευτική,πιθανότατα του Schumy δεν θα του περνούσε από το μυαλό να μετακομίσει στην Μercedes...αλλά κυρίως η Mercedes δεν θα ήταν σε θέση να βρει έτοιμη μια καλοκουρντισμένη ομάδα σήμερα,ώστε να επενδύσει σε αυτήν.
Ακόμα και η επιλογή να μην προμηθεύσει με κινητήρες την Brawn,παρά τις σχέσεις που υπήρχαν,μου γεννά ερωτηματικά.
Η πραγματικότητα δεν φτιάχνεται με τα αν και τα ίσως,αλλά το πρόσφατο παρελθόν στη Ferrari είναι γεμάτo λάθη,τα οποία βαρύνουν αποκλειστικά το LCDM.....ιδιαίτερα από το χρονικό σημείο που δεν υπήρχε και ο Todt να τον προφυλάσσει.Ιδαίτερα η επιλογή του Domenicali σε βάρος του Brawn,όλοι γνωρίζουν πόσο λανθασμένη ήταν.Υπαγορεύθηκε προφανώς υπό το πλήρες ντελίριο της παντοδυναμίας,που κατέλαβε τον Luca Luca,κάτι φυσικό να συμβεί σε οποιονδήποτε έχει κερδίσει για συνεχόμενες χρονιές τα πάντα.....αλλά φοβάμαι πως η Ferrari θα την πληρώσει γι'αρκετό καιρό στο μέλλον.
Τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια υπήρξαν καταστροφικά,συγκρινόμενα με τη δυναμικότητα της ομάδας.....και πολύ φοβάμαι ότι δεν πρέπει να περιμένουμε τίποτα το δραματικά καλύτερο για το 2010..... Alonso o non Alonso.

Ενδιαφέρον θα έχει η 'Παρθένα' Manor GP με την εισαγωγή της τεχνολογίας Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computatio ... d_dynamics για την προσομειώση της αεροδυναμικής του μονοθεσίου όπως ακριβώς κάνουν τόσα χρόνια οι ομάδες στα wind tunnels χαλώντας εκατομμύρια σε ρεύμα και σε υλικό.

CFD χρησιμοποιούν όλες μα όλες οι ομάδες εδώ και 15 περίπου χρόνια. Απλά η Manor για πρώτη φορά θα στηριχτεί μόνον σε αυτό.
Το CFD δεν είναι πανάκεια. Και αυτό αποδεικνύεται πολλές φορές με το μονοθέσιο να κάνει τα πρώτα βήματα στη πίστα οπότε είναι και πολύ αργά για αλλαγές.
