Bernie mocks Dennis' fun plea

Bernie Ecclestone has mocked the idea that Ron Dennis is the man to inject some fun into Formula 1.

The McLaren boss recently suggested that F1 needed to lighten up its image in order to attract a broader, younger audience.

Dennis said the sport needed to do more to reconnect with its fans by becoming more human and accessible.

But Ecclestone said Dennis’ own McLaren team sets a poor example.

“I’m concerned with Ron and his statements because he’s the last person to do any of those things,” Ecclestone said in an exclusive interview with ITV Sport’s Steve Rider.

“You can’t get his drivers to talk to anybody and they never want to compete in anything.

“So it’d be great if he started doing what he’s saying should be done.

“I think what he’s saying is that everybody else should do it except McLaren.”

Ecclestone also feels reigning world champion Fernando Alonso could be a better ambassador for the sport and called on F1’s drivers and teams to do more for the public.

“Hopefully the teams and the drivers will realise they need to give a little bit back to the sport,” he said.

“I mean we have a world champion now that doesn’t do too much.

“They become world champion, they take a lot – not just commercially – out of the sport and they should start thinking about putting things back.

“I mean that’s where Jenson’s good – he’d be a good world champion.”

Montoya: Schumacher should retire

McLaren driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes Michael Schumacher should retire at the end of this season. According to the Colombian it would be better if Schumacher would retire while being at the top.

'I think these successes this season should make him retire. He should quit while being at the top. He would be mad if he would carry on in F1 after he wins the title this season,' Montoya told Gazzetta dello Sport.

McLaren wants to keep Kimi - boss
Another blow for Montoya...

McLaren's preferred teammate for Fernando Alonso in 2007 is silver-clad incumbent Kimi Raikkonen.

The public admission of team 'F1 CEO' Martin Whitmarsh will be a blow to Kimi's current teammate Juan Pablo Montoya, who - like Raikkonen - is near the end of his current contract.

''We've made no secret of the fact that we would prefer Kimi ... to remain in the team,'' Whitmarsh told the British Guardian 'paper.

He said: ''To that end we've given him the maximum amount of time to decide what he wants to do.''

26-year-old Raikkonen, nicknamed 'Iceman' by McLaren boss Ron Dennis, is linked strongly with a move to Ferrari, but it is not likely that the Finn - albeit currently critical of the MP4-21 car - will want to leave McLaren if Michael Schumacher hangs around in red overalls.

Should Kimi leave the Woking-based team, however, Montoya is still not guaranteed his ride. McLaren protégé and now GP2 frontrunner Lewis Hamilton is increasingly tipped for a sensational silver-clad Grand Prix debut in 2007.

But the 21-year-old could also be 'loaned' elsewhere, with Whitmarsh clarifying that any contract with another team would maintain Hamilton 'on the end of a very strong piece of elastic'.

Νομίζω πως ο Μοντόγια έχει δεχτεί πολλά χτυπήματα από την ομάδα του... απορώ πως δε την βρίζει δημόσια πλέον... Δηλ. αν ο Κιμι φύγει, θα κρατήσουν ας πούμε το Μοντόγια από ανάγκη? Μ@λ@κίες

Εχω μία διαίσθηση ότι θα πάει στην RBR...

Παρομοίως, έχω την αίσθηση ότι ο JpM την έχει δει λίγο «ταρίφας» απ' την αρχή της σαιζόν, και μάλιστα όχι χωρίς ευθύνη και της ομάδας.
Δεν αποκλείω οτι η αναχώρηση στο τέλος της σαιζόν έχει ήδη οριστικοποιηθεί.

Πολύ θα΄θελα να ξέραμε γιατι αυτη η αντιμετωπιση της McLaren προς τον Montoya... Εκτός από τις δύο πατάτες πέρσι σε Τουρκία & Βέλγιο που κόστισαν στο κατασκευαστών και ίσως κάποιες όχι και τόσο καλές εμφανίσεις, δεν μπορώ να σκεφτώ κάτι άλλο...

Αυτόέχει αναφερθεί πουθενά εδώ μέσα;

Προβλεπω οτι ο καθυστερημενος υιος πρωην πρωθυπουργου, με την κατσικοποδαριά που δερνει το σόι του θα σπασει κανα ποδαρι πιλοτου...

Θα επαναλάβω την ερώτηση που έχω κάνει 15 φορές.....Γιατί πρέπει ο Montoya να κάνει μόνο λάθη ενώ ο Raikonnen να έχει μόνο ατυχίες???
