Škoda drivers are the most satisfied mainstream brand owners in the UK, according to the 2005 J D Power Survey of Customer Satisfaction. Ranked second overall for the second consecutive year, Škoda was beaten to the top spot by only one luxury brand – and by only one point. With a CSI score of 847, Škoda’s rating improved by four points over 2003, compared to an industry average decline of two points. This year marks the 10th year in succession that Škoda has remained in the Top 5 of all manufacturers.
The Octavia and its supermini sister model, the Fabia, were ranked joint fourth overall among all models in the survey. The Octavia, Škoda’s medium-sector car, was rated tops in the Family Car category, also for the second year running. Škoda is the only brand to have two models in the top five, out of the 124 models included in the survey.
Škoda was rated first among manufacturers in the Ownership Costs portion of the survey, which was completed by some 90,000 UK car owners. In the other areas of the survey, Škoda ranked third in Service Satisfaction, fourth in Quality and Reliability, and eighth in Vehicle Appeal, a category dominated by prestige models. Škoda’s ratings were up in every category compared to the 2004 survey results.
Among Škoda owners, 98% say they would recommend their car to a friend, and 94% say they would buy another Škoda. By comparing the quality and reliability rankings with the percentage of owners who bought based on their car’s reputation, it is clear that Škoda owners’ experience is better than even their high expectations.
Škoda UK Brand Director, Chris Craft, commented, “This result, coming on top of last week’s Driver Power survey, consolidates Škoda’s position as the number one mainstream car brand for customer satisfaction in the UK. I am delighted to see the gap between Škoda and the single prestige brand ahead of us reduced to the tiny margin of just one point. This survey reflects the excellent quality of our vehicles, the value for money provided through-out the Škoda ownership experience, and importantly, the human touch delivered through our retailers.”
Skoda Octavia CLASS WINNER - Family Car
Rating 84.7% Overall Ranking 4th(/152)
Just as it has become something of a habit for Japanese cars to win overall, so it has for the Octavia to pick up the award for best family car. In fact, the Skoda has won this class ever since What Car? first started publishing the results of this survey, four years ago.As you’d expect from a winner – and the fifth-placed car overall – it’s a very impressive performance. The Octavia rates as at least above average in every category and excellent for running costs.
Top Gear Survey
This year, the Top Gear survey had over fifty two thousand respondents, making it their largest survey to date and the largest car survey to have been carried out this year. We are, therefore very, very proud to announce that in the survey the Škoda Octavia was named as the 'top scoring Medium Car of 2004'.

'Another great showing for the Octavia, which remains the family car to beat...its package of space, affordability and flawless servicing remains a winner.'
And...
'Still putting the big boys to shame, the spacious Octavia is an affordable ideal.'

Once again Japanese makes dominate the top end of the table, with Lexus, Honda, Toyota and Mazda all appearing in the top 10.
With no fewer than eight of the top 15 individual models hailing from Japan, it seems that these manufacturers do the most to ensure you get an enjoyable and satisfying ownership experience.
However, it’s not just cars from the Far East that bring smiles to their owners’ faces. Models from the Czech Republic (Skoda), Germany (BMW and Audi) and Sweden (Volvo, Saab) also rank among the top 20 cars in the JD Power Customer Satisfaction Index.
As with previous years, buying a prestige badge is no guarantee that you’ll get miles of hassle-free motoring. Mercedes again lies below the industry average, while Skoda, Volkswagen’s budget brand, sits proudly in second place. However, Volkwagen itself only manages 16th place.
