It all started Jan 1 of this year. My serpentine belt had to be replaced along with the plastic(???) pulley. I spent $200-300 to have it replaced only to break down again 3 weeks later for the same issue. I asked the dealer if I was going to have to pay for it because it seemed to me they did a shotty job the first time. He said, yes, I had to pay. Then I went to another dealership to inquire if they were being honest with me. They advised me to call VW of America. VW of America said that sounded fishy so they worked it out with the dealer PLUS that issue was covered under warranty. I still had a warranty on that at that time. About a month and a half after this fiasco, I had to have it towed again because the wires on the battery were loose, and I kept losing power in the rain in traffic!
The next issue happened 2 weeks ago. Turns out it is the infamous ignition coil, which I had to shell out almost 1G for. I was never offered alternate transportation according to the article nor reimbursement so I am writing to VW of AMerica and sending the letter to Clark Howard and the BBB. What have I got to lose...because 4 days after I picked the car up from getting the coil replaced, it had another problem and THIS time...it was the spark plug wires needed to be replaced.
Ok, when does it stop? In 6 months, it's been to the dealer 5 times.
My next step is to take it to an independent mechanic and have him do a thorough looking-over.
Is it time to give up? Really, be honest...this car never had problems until this year. I bought it in '03, CPO @ 17K miles. Now it has 54K.
No more warranties except on the window regulator.
Oh, before I forget...when it was having the ignition coil replaced, they told me that my O2 was on the verge of needing to be replaced, but they couldn't replace it until it actually breaks.
WTH?!?!?-
Does anybody know if the manual **05-06 **GTIs have the same problems as the old one, with the clutch exploding, breaking, melting and all I've read here. Also, is there any other considerable problems on this year models worth mentinoning, excessive oil consumption, oil sludge accumulation, bad brakes, anything. I was considering on getting one since I thought all these 'defects' may be corrected on the latest year model, but I don't know. Any suggestions from anyone that currently owns one of the latest models.
Thanks.

Exactly two days after my 2001 GTI GLX VR6 went off warranty the following happened:
- Horn broke(for the third time)
- Trunk lock broke
- Airbag light came on (strap broke)
Total Cost: $600+
Three hours after picking up the car from the dealer who made the repairs the window regulator failed (for the second time)
Fortunately, a class action lawsuit was recently settled and that item was under warranty. But the front brakes weren't. I mentioned that the hand break felt loose and the dealership checked my brakes and found that the inboard passenger side front pad was completely worn out. They could not explain why. Car had just 15,000 mi. and all other front pads ok. Damage necessitated new pads and rotors.
Total Cost: $550
Grand total within one week of warranty expiring $1150. Gotta love that German enginering.
Other probs before and since:
Defective transmission mount
coil pack failure
mass air flow sensor failed
sagging driver's door
rear brake pads wore out aft. 10,000mi
glove box door brokePresently experiencing a nasty shimmy in the front end. When I brought it to the dealer they said that after rotating the tires did not help, two tires should be replaced. When I asked which two, the rep. replied confidently 'why the front two of course'. IDIOT. He was sure however that my serpentine belt was cracked and needed to be replaced.

I bought a certified pre-owned '01 GTI 1.8T last January with about 35k miles. Around June of last year, it started to develop a problem where when idling, the RPMs would dip down to around 500, and then the engine would rev to keep itself from stalling. Sometimes, it didn't catch it in time and it would just stall.
I took it in and they cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor under warranty. It worked fine for a few months, then the same thing started again. I took it back in and they replaced the MAS. Then it happened AGAIN. Most recently, my CEL came on (with no noticable symptoms) and they said that the computer was still saying it was having MAS problems. Now my CEL is on AGAIN.
I'm almost out of warranty on this car, I won't be able to afford to pay for these kinds of repairs on an ongoing basis, and I owe more on it than the bluebook value. Does anyone have any ideas for either trying to get a more permanant fix or somehow getting out of this car without loosing my shirt?
Thanks very much. I'm at the end of my rope with this, and it's been a challenge to try to type this without a string of curses.

VW Phaeton W12 owned by my company and me is experiencing **extremely dangerous accelerator failure **under repeated circumstances which VW thus far refuses to acknowledge or rectify.
This last occurred two weeks ago. I pressed the accelerator quickly to the floor and kept it there and waited. The car just sat there idling at 500rpm for 10 SECONDS then took off like a bat out of hell.
I have experienced this phenomenon on several occasions since I bought the car in July 2004. The car now has 7000+ miles on it. I have reported this problem to the dealership 3 times and gotten a runaround you wouldn't believe. According to the dealership, this is the only W12 sold in Nashville, Tennessee, USA thus far, and the during the last conversation I had with the Service Manager, he threatened to send me to Memphis from now on for service as a result of my expressed dissatisfaction with their service departments total failure to resolve this very dangerous acceleration problem.
I was finally told this past Friday that a 'Quality Control Field Expert' is going to meet with me about this problem. VW HAS ALREADY OFFERED TO BUY BACK MY W12 WITHOUT RESOLVING THE PROBLEM!
BEWARE OUT THERE! If your Phaeton fails to accelerate as mine has in critical driving situations, you may find yourself crushed under the wheels of some 18 Wheeler that was unable to stop in time while you were unable to get out f the way. This scares the hell out of me.
The field representative I spoke to this past Friday let it slip that she was told that the electronics 'get confused' when the accelerator is pressed down too quickly. WHAT? I asked for her comments in writing. She refused. There are threads about this problem existing in other VW models as well, I notice. WOW!
I think this is a software problem!
If anyone else out there is experiencing this problem, please write to me @ eprestidge@comcast.net or post your notes here. This issue WILL be resolved, I assure you, and not quieted by a discreet offer from VW to buy back my car.

I am finding parts on the floor! Lately two parts from the seat belt - they cover the stitching on the belt. Just split in two and fell on he floor!

Honda Civic Type-R. Έχουν σχεδόν την ίδια τιμή. Ποιό είναι καλύτερο συνολικά;
ΟΕΟ?
Έχεις παρακολουθήσει γενικότερα τις απόψεις μου ή αρκείσαι να απαντάς στα θέματα που σε συμφέρει;
Προτιμώ να έχω ένα αυτοκίνητο που μου προσφέρει πολύ περισσότερα από την όψη (παρόλο που επιμένω ότι η Brera έχει άσχημο πίσω μέρος) καθώς και απενεργοποιούμενα ηλεκτρονικά όταν το θελήσω αναλαμβάνοντας να σώσω εγώ τις μαλακίες που θα κάνω. i bougth a new 2005 passat on 12/21/04..**after two weeks **of having it the car check engein light came on and the electrical....then the car stop on the highway...i wrote to the manufactuer on the 04/12/05...and asked for my money back ....i had to take them 2 court to get my money and also i resived $100,000.... thats the only good thing that came from my passat......
2)> Needless to say, I have had many problems with my 98 Turbo Passat in the whole year that I have owned it. How did word of VWs = bigpileofcrap not ever reach me??? I really need help right now. I have maxed out all my credit cards trying to keep this car running and make the payments on it. I am going to get rid of it as soon as is humanly possible but there are too many problems with it right now that must be repaired first. I have been to 2 repair shops (I'm avoiding the dealership for as long as possible) and both charged me for their 'attempts' at fixing it. Here's the problem : It all started one beautiful sunny day.... the damn thing wouldn't start. I've since had a new relay put in the actually gets the car started but not 100% of the time. The power locks and windows do not work. The moon roof does not work. The trunk will not close. The dash lights come on but not the other interior lights (dome, etc.) The radio works, but the cd player doesn't and won't even eject my cd. I cannot afford to take this to another mechanic who thinks he can fix it, only to realize after he has spent hours (and my money) that he has no idea what's going on with my p.o.s. I've read several message boards but haven't seen anyone else with my same problem. Surely there must be somebody out there that knows??? Please help!

Don't buy a VW!!!!!
Have had nothing but problems with this lemon. 2003 Passat Wagon.
-
500 miles cruise control fails, has to be replaced.
-
16,000 miles Ignition coil fails, replaced coil and Mass air flow sensor.
-
28,000 miles Fan in dash diagnosed as faulty and needing to be replaced. Parts ordered, never installed.
-
40,000 miles oil pump and oil hoses are replaced due to oil pressure failures. Car broke down on road.
-
44,159 miles oil pressure switch replaced due to oil pressure failures.
-
46,000 miles fuel pump failure, replaced under warranty. Car broke down on road.
Volkswagen has a problem with these cars and 'oil sludge'. VW refuses to fix my car under warranty. Last word was 'we reserve the right to refuse any warrany claim, regardless of documentation of oil changes.'
I've talked to several dealerships and it's a #1 problem with these cars comming in for ruined engines and oil sludge. VW is refusing to pay for fixing the problems in most cases.
