Manager denies Alonso free to leave

Fernando Alonso's manager has denied the Spaniard has been given the green light to leave McLaren at the end of the season.

On Tuesday, The Times quoted a source close to McLaren as saying that team boss Ron Dennis had told Alonso that he was free to leave the British squad at the end of 2007.

'My understanding is that he's been told he can go because they're so fed up with him. Ron is just very pissed off with both of them [Alonso and Lewis Hamilton],' the source told the newspaper.

Alonso's contract with McLaren runs out at the end of 2009, but speculation has been rife about his future following last Saturday's incident with teammate Lewis Hamilton, when the Briton disobeyed orders from the team to allow the Spaniard to pass in order to have an extra lap in qualifying.

Alonso was later penalised for holding up Hamilton, losing his pole position and having to start from sixth place. The Spaniard finished the race in fourth while Hamilton won to stretch his lead in the championship.

Hamilton said after the Hungarian Grand Prix that Alonso had not talked to him since then.

The two-time champion told Spanish TV right after qualifying that the mood was sombre at McLaren because it was him and not Hamilton who had grabbed pole position.

Spain's best-selling newspaper Marca on Monday wrote Alonso had given McLaren an ultimatum, and that the world champion was already looking for a way out of his contract.

Marca also wrote Alonso's manager had already met with Renault team boss Flavio Briatore.

On Tuesday, almost every Spanish newspaper reported about The Times' article, but Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad said he had talked to Dennis and the Briton had denied the story.

'I talked to Dennis this morning (Tuesday) and he told me what has been published it's not true. His intention is that the contract is fulfilled,' Garcia Abad told El Pais newspaper.

Garcia Abad also downplayed reports about Alonso's exit at the end of the season, saying there aren't many options available if the world champion wants to keep on winning.

'To us, it's not a matter of money,' he added. 'If it were for they money, we would be in another team. We are in McLaren to win races and the third title. That's our goal. And in these moments there aren't that many options: just McLaren and Ferrari.'

Jenson Button's opportunities to succeed in Formula One are now gone, according to former world champion Nigel Mansell.

'Jenson should have won more races, he has under-performed and that is down to him,' Mansell told the BBC.

'He had the opportunity and he didn't take it; there won't be any more,' the 1992 world champion added.

Button scored his maiden Grand Prix in last year's Hungarian Grand Prix, after 115 races, but has struggled in this year's championship with an uncompetitive Honda.

This season Button has scored just one point in 11 races and has failed to qualify in the top 16 in the last three Grands Prix.

Mansell believes Button's best days are now behind him.

'Jenson is a great talent,' Mansell said. 'But he was far better years ago than he is now because he was hungry then. He's got a great reputation for partying and that's taken the edge off it. He's a typical example of too much, too soon.

'He'll have a great lifestyle but he's had his opportunities and it hasn't happened for him.'

Εδω υπάρχουν Webber και Rosberg να τακτοποιηθούν σε καλή ομάδα τον Button θα προσέξουν

αυτό υποννοούν με την απομάκρυνσή τους...μερικοί μάλιστα της ομάδας το λένε κ ξεκάθαρα...πώς λέμε μαύρη είναι η νύχτα στα βουνά.

ο Liuzzi για μένα δεν έπρεπε να φύγει.

Με τη διαφορα οτι ο Speed δεν ειχε ποτε καλη φημη γιαυτο θα μεινει ανεργος στην F1 ενω ο Liuzzi θα εχει καποιες επιλογες να βγει απο το loop της Red Bull.

Αν εννοείς ότι άργησε να πάρει τον τίτλο, αυτός τουλάχιστον έφτασε πολύ κοντά (1987) και σημείωσε και αρκετές εντυπωσιακές νίκες.

Ο Fernando κι εγώ έχουμε σκληρό ανταγωνισμό και σεβασμό ο ένας για τον άλλο. Είμαστε και οι δύο φιλόδοξοι οδηγοί, που θέλουν να κερδίζουν. Όμως, δεν είμαστε σε πόλεμο, όπως έχει εκτενώς αναφερθεί. Αν και δεν μιλήσαμε την Κυριακή, έχουμε μιλήσει μετά το Σαββατοκύριακο και εξακολουθούμε να έχουμε επαγγελματική σχέση συνεργασίας. Στην πραγματικότητα, ο Fernando κι εγώ σχεδιάζουμε να συναντηθούμε στην περίοδο των διακοπών.

Ως άτομο, στην πρώτη μου χρονιά στη Formula 1, έχω κάνει το καλύτερο που μπορώ για να συμπεριφερθώ κατά τρόπο επαγγελματικό και ανοιχτό. Φυσικά, έχω κάνει λάθη, όχι μόνο το τελευταίο Σαββατοκύριακο, και αυτά είναι εκτεθειμένα σε δημόσια κριτική. Έχω τις δικές μου τύψεις και έχω αντιμετωπίσει τα θέματα που προκύπτουν. Όμως, είναι απογοητευτικό ότι εμπρηστικό και αναληθές υλικό δίνεται στα μέσα και δημοσιεύεται, το οποίο μπορεί να θίξει υπολήψεις. Αυτό το υλικό από πολλούς χαρακτηρίστηκε πραγματικό.

Παρότι υπό φυσιολογικές συνθήκες δεν θα επέλεγα να επικοινωνήσω μέσω δελτίου Τύπου, ένιωσα ότι είναι σημαντικό να ξεκαθαρίσω αυτό το ζήτημα'.

ναι αλλά ηταν 4-5 χρονιές στην κορυφαία ομάδα που επαιρνε το πρωτάθλημα

ο Μπάτον μόνο το 2004 ηταν σε καλό αυτοκίνητο μόνο που δεν είχε καμιά τύχη δίπλα στη Φερράρι τότε

**Toro Rosso confirm Bourdais for 2008 **

Scuderia Toro Rosso have confirmed three-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais will race for the team in 2008.

The Frenchman will join German Sebastian Vettel at the Italian squad next season.

'It has been a long time coming, but here we are,' said Bourdais. 'I would like to thank everyone at Red Bull for believing in me and giving me this long-awaited opportunity to race in Formula One.

'I must also thank Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing for letting me pursue my dream and allowing me to test for Scuderia Toro Rosso a few times this year.'

The 28-year-old Frenchman will be free to join the team after the final round of this year's Champ Car Series on 2 December.
