I live in California and I drive the cooper occasionally. I am waiting for a cooper S in March. (there is a waiting list in the states)
Cooper has very amazing handling but it still feels underpowered. I have to rev the engine high to get the torque. You have to keep the engine around 3000 to 4000 rpm to have some fun. The 6 speed gear box is very nice. It has a very nice feel to it.
Interior is nice and it is roomy. I am 187cm and I fit nicely inside.
The only problem is that I can not see the numbers on the tachometer around 3-4000 rmp bcause of the steering wheel gets in the way. Its kind of annoying because I use the the tach when I drive. You can fit people in the back for sort trips I guess.
I like the car in the winding roads. There is no body roll and very good feel of the road. There is not too much torque steer.
I also drive a boxter and I find that the cooper compares nicely when it comes to the feel of the road but of course its a different class of car.
I recommend buy the sun roof. It makes the car feel more open.
The trunk is kind of joke but then it is no supprise.
I have test driven the cooper S and it is worth the extra coin for sure.
Really sorry again for the english....I hope I helped out a bit.
