Jul.2 (GMM) Fernando Alonso would be welcome at Honda but his preferred employer is Ferrari.
That was the admission this week of Ross Brawn, team principal at the Honda team, whose current drivers are out of contract at the end of 2008.
Amid speculation at Magny-Cours two weeks ago that Brackley based Honda could be Spaniard Alonso's next destination, Brawn now admits that 'every team' would be interested in the services of the former double world champion.
'Honda is no different, of course,' he is quoted as telling the Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell.
'Fernando is a very good driver that everyone would like to have sitting in their car,' said Brawn, who until the end of 2006 was technical director at Ferrari.
Brawn, referring to the famous Maranello based squad, continued: 'I know what team he would like to go to, everyone does.
'The reality is that, before we can talk seriously with him, the situation with Ferrari must be resolved.'
If Alonso, 26, ultimately does go on the market for a different team, Brawn makes it clear that Honda is unfazed that his relationship with McLaren last year ended so badly.
'There would be no problem, not at all; the truth is that it would be a fascinating challenge,' he said.
'Broadly speaking, everyone who has worked with him speaks highly of him. With McLaren it was obviously difficult, but the people at Renault regard him very highly,' Brawn added.

Donington Park pit plan revealed
British Grand Prix
The British Grand Prix will move to Leicestershire in 2010Bosses at Donington Park in Leicestershire are planning to build a new pit complex ahead of the British Grand Prix at the circuit from 2010.
**Work will begin in the autumn and the new facility will feature a race control centre and a media centre.
Donington Park spokesman David Fern said that a 'totally new complex will be built with all of the pits fitted out to the latest specifications'.**
The track will also be lengthened to three miles (4.8km).
'Spectacular' improvements
The £3m pit and paddock, built three years ago, will remain largely intact.
**
Mr Fern said the lengthened track would include 'a spectacular sweeping curve' with a computer-simulated lap of 77 seconds that would allow cars and bikes to travel at speeds of up to 200 mph (322 km/hr).**The construction work will start at the end of the racing season.
Donington Park chief executive Simon Gillett said about £100m would be spent on overall improvements at the circuit.
Donington Park has hosted the British Motorcycle Grand Prix since 1987 and will take over the British Grand Prix from Silverstone in 2010.
The track last hosted a Grand Prix race in 1993 when Ayrton Senna won the race.

Team boss Mario Theissen is still giving no hints about the identity of BMW-Sauber's driver lineup for the 2009 season.
It is no secret the Hinwil based outfit is keen to retain on-form Polish racer Robert Kubica, but his experienced teammate Nick Heidfeld has had a disappointing run of results this season in the sister car.
It is understood 31-year-old Heidfeld, a German, has a contract for next year, and his second place at Silverstone recently suggested he is now getting to grips with his problems with the F1.08 single seater.
But in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Theissen is giving nothing away about BMW-Sauber's plans for 2009.
'We will announce our driver pairing for 2009 between the (August) summer break and the end of the season. So for the moment nothing has changed,' he added.
When asked specifically about Heidfeld's improving form, Theissen continued: 'A team that wants to play a role in the world championship needs two strong drivers.
'However, even the best driver is not a robot. He can only deliver maximum results if the equipment, the environment and everything else is right.
'At Silverstone Nick gave a convincing performance; strong in qualifying, fast in the race, with spectacular overtaking manoeuvres and very good vehicle control in very difficult conditions,' Theissen said.
'For me this is the fruitful result of the past weeks of intensive work. I am convinced that, in the second half of the season, we will see a strong Nick Heidfeld,' he added.
