French court decides Hamilton fine

Lewis Hamilton has been fined around £450 by a French court for speeding, having been caught doing 122mph in a Mercedes near the northern town of Laon last year.

The McLaren driver had already paid a fine and been banned for a month for the original offence, but was given an extra punishment during a fresh hearing.

Although Hamilton was not present in court, his lawyer Jean-Francois Veroux said that Hamilton had offered to participate in a road safety campaign.

Veroux was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency: 'For him (Hamilton) it's as if he had made a mistake during a Grand Prix because he is aware of his responsibility towards young people'.
