Montoya’s private war with Ferrari
All was not well between Juan Pablo Montoya and Ferrari at the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend with the Colombian driver waging his own personal war with the Italian champions during the practice sessions leading up to the third round of the season.
As stated in the Our Spies in Bahrain report, the BMW WillaimsF1 driver was busy blocking Michael Schumacher in practice in order to spoil any chance of the six time champion setting a strong lap time.
Not one to sit back and deal with this sort of thing, Ferrari complained about Montoya’s actions. Charlie Whiting then summoned the Colombian to a meeting to discuss his actions.Montoya readily admitted that he was guilty of the charge but he was doing so as a pay back for the Scuderia’s actions toward him in Malaysia where he believes Barrichello was told by Ferrari to hold him up in the final stint so that he couldn’t challenge Michael Schumacher, allegations that have been denied by the Brazilian.
No official action was taken, however Charlie did dish out a warning to the Williams driver…
