Automotive News / January 15, 2003General Motors intends to build the Pontiac Solstice concept roadster introduced at the 2002 Detroit auto show, a senior executive said.
'We have every intention of bringing it to market, and bringing it to market to make a buck,' John Smith, group vice president for vehicle sales, service and marketing, told the Automotive News World Congress.
GM officials have said they are studying the vehicle, which would require a new rear-wheel-drive architecture.
Smith also said that GM wants to do a better job of selling to customizers. And it wants to bring its share of three key ethnic markets -- blacks, Asian-Americans and Hispanics -- up to the level of its overall market share of 28.6 percent.
But Smith was skeptical of special product programs aimed at youth. GM is not considering a youth-oriented product line like Toyota's new Scion channel, he said.
It would be more effective to train salespeople to deal with young shoppers who have used the Internet to gather information, Smith said.
'It's fair to say on average that they probably know more than the salesperson for any brand,' he said. 'They're not looking to be handled the way the sales process has handled people in the past. They're not looking to be handled, period.'

Εφόσον μιλάμε για ένα νέο μοντέλο, και αφού τελικά αποφάσισε να το βγάλει, δεν θα έπρεπε να πάει στην ενότητα των νέων μοντέλων;

Επιπλέον, αν δεν κάνω λάθος, η παραγωγή του Solstice (από το οποίο μου φαίνεται ότι λείπει ένας κεντρικός αεραγωγός στο ταμπλώ) θα σημάνει και την παραγωγή ενός αντίστοιχου μοντέλου από την Opel, λίγο πιο κοντά στα Ευρωπαϊκά πρότυπα (και πρέπει να παραδεχθώ ότι το παρόν αυτό μοντέλο είναι όμορφο και - ευτυχώς - ξεχωρίζει από τα άλλα) και, ας ελπίσουμε, και με κατά τι μικρότερους κινητήρες. Ίδωμεν.
